Black and White

July 10th, 2010 by Thomas

Anyone remember the post I had up on June 20th?  If not let me refresh your memory.  It was a little contest for Caitlin Kittredge and Jackie Kessler’s book Black and White.  Now, some may say, it’s written by romance novelists, why oh why would I want this book?  Because, silly, its written by Kittredge and Kessler.  While it’s true, Kessler is a RN, and Caitlin may be considered that, although I think she’d slightly disagree with you, they are stellar authors.  If nothing else, it should prove to be an interesting story.  The other reason, and perhaps this is just my inner geek, is because its a story with supervillians and superheros in it.  Who doesn’t like that?  Well, I will let you all know how this book turns out.  How you ask?  Well because this arrived today…

Yes, I was the winner.  Little ol’ me.  And, in addition to just winning the book, Ms. Kessler herself has signed it.  How awesome is that.  OK, that is two author signed books.  Cherie Priest (aka The steampunk Goddess) and now Jackie Kessler.  I REALLY want one from Caitlin Kittredge though.  Maybe Shades of Gray???  Anyone want to tell her I want one?

Anyway, its been kinda a busy week over here, and I have had some rewrites to do, all thanks to my critique group.  Of which I will critique them on another post.  Hope everyone has a stellar weekend.

4th of July

July 4th, 2010 by Thomas

Yes, today, er…well, yesterday was the Fourth of July.  A day that I take very seriously, and to heart.  A day when the greatest nation in the world was born.  I could go into a rant here about patriotism, politics, and how I think this country is going to hell in a hand basket one liberal idiot at a time.  But, that is not what I blog for, nor is that why you’ve come.  So, I won’t.  I will simply hope that you all had a happy fourth and were safe and sober when playing with your explosives.  As for me and the fam we went to Alpharetta’s firework display in Wills Park.  This year was awesome as it is every year we go.

Face painting…$0.00
Bounce houses…$0.00
Guy that makes animals from balloons…$0.00
Spending time with the family without blowing the budget…Priceless.

And on the way home I developed a new word.  Sheboshee.  This term covers all stupid people.  From those that wear swastikas on their shirts while sporting an all American baseball cap, to those that walk idly in the middle of the street during rush-hour traffic.  There are many examples, see if you can find a Sheboshee in your town…it’s easy, the world is full of them.

On a different note, I would like to interject a slightly negative comment here.  The band that they have called “Serious Business”, they are OK.  They have the talent, don’t get me wrong, but they seriously need to stray away from Kenny Chesney.  I mean this is a 4th party, not a huntin party.  A little more rock and roll, and not so much country would be great.  I would link to their website, however, I can’t seem to find one.  But, anyway, they were ok, but need less hick and more rock.

So, quick recap…liberal = Sheboshee (my humble opinion)
Alpharetta’s fireworks display and childrens activities rock.
“Serious Business” is seriously just OK.

That’s a wrap.  I’m offline now, cuz even I need some rest.

NHL Draft

June 25th, 2010 by Thomas

Well, this is going to be a very brief post.  I am currently getting ready to head out to meet with Zach Bogosian and Evander Kane of the Atlanta Thrashers at the NHL Draft party at Phillips arena.  Now, this weekend has writing written all over it, as I need to clean up the first chapter of DRC.  I may or may not post between now and Monday, and perhaps not even on Monday as I have my writers meeting that night.  So, to all the hockey fans…enjoy the draft, to the rest of the world…have a great weekend.

Place catchy title here…

June 22nd, 2010 by Thomas

Well, so much to write about tonight, and so little time.  First off let me say that the writers critique group went well.  I had a lot of feed back, and most of it was constructive.  Afraid to say it, but I have some re-writes to do, but I knew that going into it.  But, I did get some good ideas as to how to improve a few scenes in the opening chapter.  So, thats a bonus.  I will be spending much time this weekend with my little book and nursing it back to health.  I truly feel it has some worthiness, otherwise I would discontinue and start fresh.  I will be returning to the group on Monday, and hopefully have a little better response to it.

Tonight we just got back from Atlanta Ice Forum in which we all got to skate on ice with Chris Thorburn

Number 27 a forward for the Atlanta Thrashers.
I would like to say that this man was so down to earth.  He spent like 45 minutes of the hour and a half we had on the ice with either my son, me or our family.  He truly is a great role model for children, and I am glad my son got to spend time with him.  We got some great pictures, and some signed T-shirts as well.  But the time spent on ice with a NHL player from my favorite team is something I’ll cherish for a long time.  Well done Chris and good luck in 11.  GO THRASHERS!!!!

OK.  Thats a wrap for now.  I am really really tired and the bed beckons me.  I shall return soon and with re-writes as well.  Start looking for that little progress bar on the left there to start moving again soon!

Another contest for Caitlin’s Black and White book…

June 20th, 2010 by Thomas

If you like Black and White, Jackie Kessler or Caitlin Kittredge, or if you simply like stories about Superheros and Supervillians then I suggest you read the interview with Ms. Kessler over here @ Literary Escapism.  After which you should then promptly enter the contest by answering Jackie’s little question on Historical Characters.  Enjoy.

Playing with your food and swords.

June 19th, 2010 by Thomas

Tonight my amazingly awesome wife took me out to medieval times for my father’s day gift.  I was excited when I learned of our destination as I have never been there, however I was in store for more than I thought.  Without going into great detail, I was shocked by how delicious the food and ale were.  I was equally amazed at the talent of the cast.  Between dinner and the tournament I would have been satisfied.  However, during the show they had a falconer who was amazing, and to top it off the horse training was awesome.  I have never witnessed a horse walk on his hind legs before in my life.  Never even knew it was possible.  So, hats off to Medieval Times in Discover Mills cast and crew.  I believe it was worth every penny.  Well done guys.

Just thought I would write that little review.  I try not to do reviews of things unless they move me to do so.  So, take not my reviews lightly.  Now that I’m done being all self righteous…I can move on to other subjects.

A long time friend of mine has his own very special brand of music, and I highly recommend that you try a few of his songs.  They are free to download, and spyware free as well.  He’s been in music since elementary school (where we grew up together) and has composed some of the most beautifully moving music I have heard.  I can’t express enough that you will be missing something if you don’t listen to at least three or more of his songs.  Why am I so adamant about this?  I’m glad you asked.  Simply because when someone or something is awesome I share it with my followers.  When something is as awesome as this, I will try shoving it in front of anyone I can.  So there..deal with it.  Oh, I know, I know I didn’t forget the link to this site.  Its a very simple sight and he only has it up so he can share his creations with everyone.  Please if you like his music, or have something to tell him, just drop him a comment.  I am sure he’d love to hear from you.  OK…you ready for the link now.
You ARE going to go right now, right?  OK.  Here it is.  Smartmix.org

This is all I have tonight.  So, enjoy.  Good night.
