Sold!

August 15th, 2010 by Thomas

Yes, I have another reason to do my little snoopy dance like snoopy does.  According to Amazon.com I have sold my first short story.  I am not privy to the who and the when, however I would like to send mega thanks out to whom ever it was.  I look forward to seeing your review of it on Amazon.  This is indeed a glorious moment for me, and I think I am going to bask in it for a little while.
…basking….
basking some more…

OK.,  Now I need to get down to brass tacks on DRC and get some decent word counts in this week.  My wife will be out of town for two days the middle of the week, and that should give me a little extra time to add into it.  I plan to write until the keys on the keyboard are unrecognizable hunks of melted plastic.

Things accomplished today….spent some much needed time with the kids…rollerskating.  Keep in mind I have not slipped into a pair of roller skates since my early days in high school.  I’m sure to wake tomorrow with more than a mules share of aching muscles and possibly a few cramps.  But, it was all worth it, to see the smile on the kids faces.

It wasn’t my fault!! I swear to God!!

August 9th, 2010 by Thomas

Its only 639 words, but they are words none-the-less.  It’s been a long day.  The sun was in my eyes.  The priest made me do it.  I ran outta gas. I had a flat tire. I didn’t have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn’t come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from outta town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake, a terrible flood, locust’s. It wasn’t my fault!! I swear to God!!

Its a fact, I am thrilled

August 8th, 2010 by Thomas

I awoke Saturday morning to a delightful email from Strange Circle Magazine.  Strange Circle was holding a contest for dark short stories, so I submitted my polished draft of Retribution that I had been sitting of for months.  Seems the judge(s) over at SCM found my story print worthy, and selected it as a runner-up.  Now, while I didn’t win the big huge stupendous prize of $50.00 I did manage to win the $15.00 subscription to Firstwriter.com.  But, the big deal to me is that Retribution will be in print by the decision of someone else.  So, while you can find Retribution on Amazon.com you will soon be able to read it from the Ezine Strange Circle.  This was a real sweet moment for me, and I proceeded to do the snoopy dance after reading the email.  I am very excited, and it is no matter that SCM is a debut magazine, in the UK, that I have never heard of, I am excited none-the-less.

In other non-writing news, I have an interview (phone) tomorrow with a deli for a General Manager’s position.  If all goes well, I can tell my current underpaying, overworking, and underachieving company that we must part ways.  So, wish me luck on that front.  I also applied for some part-time gigs and was fortunate enough to land one at a local bookstore (Borders) and will be gainfully employed there at least throughout the holiday’s.  All the while using them as my personal library.  Yep, today I took from them (that is borrowed…not stole) Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  So, I look forward to starting that little delicious sounding bit of fiction.  If you know of a good one that you think I should invest time in reading…comment below.

I finally finished Cherie Priest’s book Fathom.  An excellent read, and I highly recommend it…as I do her Hugo and Nebula nomination book BoneShaker.  Both are time well spent.  Now, if you’ll excuse me…I have a presidential vampire hunter to read up on.

Oops I did it again…

August 4th, 2010 by Thomas

I have finally succeeded in moving my protag out that damn cafe he has been sitting in for the last few months.  I am sure his ass cheeks are sore by now.  But, with a little help from Stephen King, I was able to just tell the goddamn story.  So, I put a “bomb in the closet” and moved on from there.  I only hit 155 words on the metrics last night, but thats 155 more words than I have written in the last four months.  I feel so relieved, and am anxious to get back to it.  Alas, house details must come first, then I still have one errand to run, then I have my QT with my honey, then ….yes, finally….I can write some more.

I have finished reading Stephen King’s on Writing.  And, I must say, it was well worth the time to read…not that it took me very long, I went through it in like four days.  His advice, and his experiences he has shared will stay with me as a writer for a very long time.  It was only his words that made me able to just move the story along, and worry about the ending…well, at the end.

More blogging will ensue, now especially since I will have more things to update everyone on.

My Super Sekrit goes public

August 2nd, 2010 by Thomas

I am very proud to announce that my short story Retribution has been published and is now available for purchase on Amazon.com.  Clicking the link will take you straight to it.  If you do not have a Kindle and would still like to read it, you can download Kindle for PC here and read it on your computer as well.

It took some polishing, and critiquing but I managed to talk myself into putting out there for the world to like or dislike.  Is it going to be a smash hit or overnight success….I’d like to think so, but I’m probably just kidding myself.  I think its good, or I wouldn’t have published it on Amazon…right?  Right.  So, take a peek, it’s only 2.99 (which, by the way, is the minimum you can charge on Amazon.com/kindlestore for this kind of thing.  I truly hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

So, there you have it folks, the first published work (even if it is self published) of a completely unknown author.

Thrashers prospect camp and the Grasshopper

July 11th, 2010 by Thomas

The fam and I went to Duluth today to observe the new, and possible new, blood recruited by the Thrashers.  I would say that we were pleasently surprised.  From the drills I have seen, and the scrimmage game that took place most of these guys can pass, shoot and score.  Which anyone will tell you that PSS is secret to winning hockey games.  Burmistrov was a complete shock to me when he was drafted, and I seriously questioned our new fearless leader.  However, after having the privilege of seeing him on the ice, I am no longer in doubt.  He was fast, powerful, and agile.  While Aliu was not on the winning team of the scrimmage, he sure seemed to be a force to be reckoned with.  I am looking forward to October 8th, and Season opener.  I am also pleased that we kept Boulton and Slater, now if I can figure out if we are keeping Evgeny Artyukhin and Maxim Afinogenov.  We seriously need to keep them.  Moose is gone, and will be missed, and Colby signed with Toronto back on the 1st.  So, we need to keep a few of the good guys on the team.

As for writing, well not much of that got done this weekend, and if I don’t start pretty soon, I’m not going to be able to finish when I want.   I have learned the art of procrastination all to well.  I am the Master.  I will call you Grasshopper.
